This shit isn't fooling anyone anymore. Most welders make 25 an hour, usually start at less. Only structural welders make 40+, and even then, everyone had the same idea. The labor pool is much larger, so now everyone is expendable, assuming they get a job at all.

I worked in a warehouse many years ago and we had to wear steel toe boots. They used to tell us if a metal pallet fell on your foot it would most likely cut your toes off and the metal in the boot is supposed to keep your toes in your boot so they can reattach them at the hospital.

I' ve been working in the ship building industry for several years. Never seen anyone changing a pipe (or anything else for that matter) due to concerns of structural integrity cause of the arc strike. The shipyard i am currently wonking in, is building the ICON class for Royal Caribbean. Trust me... none of that ever happens...
